Refill Devotional, Week 8 Day 2: “Hope”

Hope

Romans 5: 1-5

I don’t know about you but sometimes I go through a tribulation and have my patience tested and stretched. My character starts building and then I get this faith filled hope that God is going to come through. But, when that circumstance starts to last too long, all of a sudden I start to lose hope – not because my initial hope failed me but because I failed to hold on to God’s love.

Romans 5:5 says that God’s love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Hope does not disappoint because the Holy Spirit fills us with God’s love so why are so many of us disappointed?  How do we get a refill on hope when we get that hopeless feeling? This scripture talks about how the Holy Spirit directs our focus to the cross and allows us to hear God’s love for us displayed through the cross. God’s love is so powerful, beautiful, and overwhelmingly sweet that we can’t help but have hope in Him. The Holy Spirit has freely poured God’s love not just on us but into us, when we accepted Christ as Savior.  The Holy Spirit poured but we need to access it and declare the work of the Holy Spirit on our hearts and speak that hope does not disappoint.
