Refill Devotional, Week 8 Day 1: “Completely Filled”

Completely Filled

Acts 4:5-31

I love that most restaurants have free refills. Then I know that when I pay for a drink the server will bring the drink until my thirst is quenched for the time being. I get a guarantee that if I pay for the drink then I won’t be thirsty.

It’s the same way with the Holy Spirit; we have this guarantee that when He comes to fill us, He will fill us completely. When we look at the story of Peter and John in Acts 4, we see these men who are filled with the Holy Spirit declaring the name of Jesus and defending the name of Jesus to the Jewish rulers and politicians. In return, the Jewish Rulers spewed threats at them and their response was to go to their community and pray. A community came together and prayed for boldness and they got a refill of the Holy Spirit and continued to do the things that God called them to do.

As people of God, I believe that when we feel discouraged, overwhelmed or like our life is out of control, we should either get with some people, fall on our knees in privacy of our homes, or cry out while driving to work and get a refill of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 says that we should be continuously filled with the Spirit of God.  There are times in our life when we are going to be more thirsty because life’s circumstances drain us faster, but the Holy Spirit is the only one who can quench that thirst. It is what our spirit longs for, a connection with Him so that we can do the things that God has called us to do within this season of our life.
