Refill Devotional, Week 2 Day 3: More Than Pen And Ink

More Than Pen And Ink

Proverbs 6:21-23

As a lover of books I am deeply aware of the power of the written word. Within pages that are ink-filled, bound with cover and glue, beautifully entwined together lie mysteries, uncharted lands, incredible persons who accomplish extraordinary things, windows into intense emotion and heroic feats. A good book gives us a glimpse of the incredible weight that a word on a white page can be.

However, out of all the books and all of the words I’ve seen, nothing can hold a candle to The Word of God. Words on parchment made by ink are pleasant, but what makes the Living Word more than any other book is that it is a living, breathing, life-giving Word. The Word of God was never meant to stay in a manmade binding of leather. The living word is meant to go with us wherever we go. When we are unsure of our path and doubts arise, the Word that was in the beginning of all things leads us. As we sleep it keeps us. That is, the Word guards us, observes us, watches over us and protects us. If that was not enough, the Word also speaks with us. It is relevant and alive and wants to dialogue with our very heart and soul putting forth thought to us. The Word of God is more than a book, more than components of ink, page, binding and glue; for it has the very power of God to save our soul as it leads us, keeps us and speaks with us.

Truth Challenge:

  • How have you viewed the Word of God, the Bible?

  • How has that view impacted your life?

  • How are you expecting the Living Word of God to impact your life today?
