We Need You Plugged In
Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-26
Being plugged in to a life giving church is not just something that is vital to you but it is vital to everyone around you. As a matter of fact, if you are not plugged in and involved, the rest of us are doing things we were never created to do.
When I was playing college basketball I tore the cartilage in my knee. It was a pretty painful experience and eventually I had to get surgery. After the surgery my knee was pretty stiff and sore so I needed to use crutches for a few days to hobble around. After hobbling around with crutches for a week my knee was feeling better but man did my armpits hurt from using those crutches! Why? Because my arms were not made for walking. Because my leg was unable to do it’s part, my arms had to pick up the slack so I could continue to get around. This resulted in a funny looking walk and some very sore arms.
This is what today’s reading out of 1 Corinthians is telling us. The body of Christ, the church, is made up of many people and each of us has a specific gift and fit. The Bible uses the analogy of eyes and ears, etc. If we do not get plugged in, the church is lacking because you are that eye or that ear or that hand and we need you.
We need you to get plugged because without you, although the church will keep moving forward just like I did with the crutches, we will be sore and look awkward because you are not fulfilling your place. When each body part does what it is supposed to do individually we can do something powerful together corporately.
Get plugged in and fulfill your call!
