Refill Devotional, Week 2 Day 1: “The Sweetest Words I Have Ever Tasted”

The Sweetest Words I have Ever Tasted

Psalm 119:97-104

Anyone that knows me knows I love chocolate…a lot. Chocolate in any form will do but Godiva chocolate, well that’s another thing altogether. It is rich, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth kind of goodness. In our passage today the psalmist describes God’s law, his words, as sweet, sweeter than honey. Sweeter than Godiva you ask? What is the result of consuming these words? It makes you wiser than your enemies; it brings forth even greater understanding than that which your teachers or elders possess. Sounds sweeter than Godiva to me!

Throughout Psalm 119 we see a love for the Word of God and we also see the results of the Word in one’s life. When we experience how good the Word is and experience the supernatural results of the Word in our lives it only makes sense that we will begin to crave it. It doesn’t stop there though. Think about it – do you think I keep the Godiva goodness to myself? Of course not! When we taste something so sweet, when we experience something so amazing, we tell everyone don’t we? So when you need understanding today look to the Word, meditate on it and avoid evil to keep it. Then, go and tell someone about the sweetest words you have ever tasted!

Truth Challenge

  • What is something that you crave often? It may be a food or even an activity.

  • After you satisfy the craving what is the result?

  • When you think through the list of things you crave is the Word on that list?
