Prayer Walk

Last Saturday I was able to join Canvas Church in a prayer walk around Mission Bay High School, were we have just started meeting. It was a beautiful morning for a walk and there was a good turn out so I thought it would be a great active way to spend the morning while accomplishing a task. If you haven’t guessed by those first couple sentences, yes I am a multi-tasker and I like to be the most efficient with my time. So in my mind if it’s nice I want to be outside, if I’m outside I might as well be doing something active and checking that off the list and if I’m doing something outside and active wouldn’t it be great to also check something else off that needed to be done which was inviting people to Canvas Church.

So I show up to the school ready to go. I have my active wear on and I’m ready to speed walk through my neighborhood dropping the most cards off of any group (because everything’s a competition), and getting a good little workout in as well. I’ve prayer walked before so of course I am an expert. You get a doorhanger you place it on a door. Of course all the while watching for scary dogs and no soliciting signs. And on the off chance you run into someone you just pretend you are lost…Obviously this is not what prayer walking is and I may be exaggerating just a bit but the point is at first I had showed up with the mindset that it was just another task on the to do list and was much more of a natural task than a spiritual one at that.

As I set out with my group to drop off the door hangers with the cool catch phrase, “This Ad Could Change Your Life.” I began to think of all the homes that we as a group would have the opportunity to touch that day and of all the homes home many people were represented in that home and not just people but each story that each person had. I began to think of each struggles and hardships that person had faced and might be facing and that catch phrase while humorous was actually more true than not. All those people behind all those houses were precious to the Lord and God was using a group of people who may have showed up just for some exercise, peer pressure or to check off a to do list to help reach them. Not only did that ad have the ability to change someone’s life by inviting them to a place where they could hear the Gospel and enter into a relationship with God, but each person that was doing something as simple as placing an add on a door knob had the ability to change a person’s life. Not only could it change that person’s life but it could have the ability to change all those that that one person would then come in contact with. Luke 19:10, Jesus says that, “The Son of Man came to seek and save the Lost.” How great a God do we serve that he would use us in such an unsuspecting way to come and meet people in their homes and give them the opportunity to experience an abundant life in Him and we can be a part of it!

Needless to say the prayer walk was a success. I can’t wait to hear the stories of those that came to Canvas because of an “Ad That Could Change Their Life.” and because of that their whole life was changed for the better. If you are wishing that you too could have been a part of this awesome time of reaching our community, don’t you fret! There are more opportunities coming up on a Saturday soon! Be a person that helps change someones life forever.

Be Blessed, Alayna
