Sometimes you need to make a move

GENESIS 19

24 Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah. 25 He utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation.

When I read about Sodom and Gomorrah and Lot and his family I can’t help but envision families all over who are living in places like this. There are children who are growing up in homes who are being raised by family members, friends, neighbors, or strangers who are teaching them about life and doing it in a completely immoral way.

The wickedness in the world is something we can’t get ever get rid of, but there is something that we can do to protect ourselves. We can put our faith in God. Earlier in chapter 19 it says how angels appeared to Lot and came to his home and they warned him to get his family out of the city because the Lord was going to destroy it. We can’t ever be blind to what is going on around us, and we can’t be deaf to what the Lord is speaking. We need to trust him when he tells us to pick up our lives and move, no matter how difficult it may be. There is a reason why God speaks to us and calls us to make difficult decisions; he wants us to trust in Him. Are you in a situation where God is calling you to make a move from where you are? Are you comfortable living surrounded by sin? I challenge you today to look at your lives and the situation you are living in, if it has been a point of contention in your mind ask God for clarity of what he has been saying. You don’t want to be in a situation like that of Sodom and Gomorrah and ignore the warning signs. The damage to your family, your children, your entire lineage can be saved from complete destruction, sometimes you just have to move out of the situation you are in.

  1. I started my new job recently. I work with kids at an after school program. At the end of my first day, I felt the need and the desire for these kids to be loved. I know without a doubt God placed me here to do just that. Although it may not be a Sodom and Gomorrah, but it’s a place that currently has no light. As I encountered the kids, I felt them gravitating towards me. I felt God tell me “This is where you will begin your ministry.” I’m honored and blessed to be able to shine God’s light and love in a place where there is none.

  2. Wow, this was good. It’s one of those things that you know, but when you hear it again it shines like a new light in your direction.
This makes me think of the “little things” we let get passed us. We may think it’s just a small thing, but add all of it together and it’s bigger than you ever imagined. Plus, even if it’s really small, it still matters in God’s eye. Therefore, it should matter in ours!
Also, when I read this I thought of my sister in Texas. She is going through a really tough time and right now her only answer is to look to God and here what he is speaking to her. When we are hurt it’s hard for us to try and listen to God because as humans, we want to do things our way. Which is what she is going through as well.

  3. I lived in Santa Rosa for a few months about a year and a half ago. It was one of the most spiritually challenging times in my life. To me, it was almost like living in a modern day Sodom/Gomorrah. At one point, I became so frustrated that I remember genuinely desiring fire to come down from heaven and burn up the whole city! I was trippin pretty hard. Haha!
Having to live in the midst of a sinful world is ridiculously challenging especially when evey stand for righteousness is met with blatant sin & disobedience. Remembering to trustin Him and His will for me, His faithfulness to me in my own sin, and His promise of salvation really helped the witness of my testimony overcome my feelings of discouragement.

  4. Yes I’m in a place in my life where God is telling me to trust him more than ever before and to move. Not physically move from the city or state BUT to move out of the way. In order to protect my daughter and my future children and husband it need to give up my own wants and desires. I don’t want to be destroyed cause of my disobedience to The Lords clear warnings.
