Refill Devotional, Week 1 Day 3: “Being Properly Plugged In”

Being Properly Plugged In

Read 2 Timothy 3:16

Being plugged into the right source and even the right cord as we have learned is so essential to us getting refilled. But how do you choose the right cord?

I had a camera one time that I loved but it seemed like it was on its last leg, as it would not hold a charge very well. I would plug it in overnight and yet it would be dead in the morning. After taking the camera to a repair shop I learned that the problem was not the camera at all but rather I had the cord plugged in wrong.

Having a good cord, or in this case a church, to plug into is so critical. The church is primarily a teaching institute. Therefore, the teaching needs to be solid because the teaching of the Word is the energy that runs through the cord that will produce power in your life. 2 Timothy 3:16 indeed shows us the power of that good teaching.

I have come to realize that the break down in this cycle typically is not bad teaching (although there are some guilty churches out there) but rather that the individual is not allowing the teaching into their life. One of the greatest things about being plugged into a church is the learning of the Word. But with learning comes two fundamental things according to James 1:22: hearing the Word and doing the Word. You can attend church all day long and hear great teaching but if you are not making changes in your life by doing the things you are learning you will not be Refilled.

Next time you go to church, if you do not feel Refilled, rather than trying to change the cord maybe you need to change the way it is plugged in.
