Carols Devotional: “O Come All Ye Faithful, Part 2”

Begotten, Not Created

“True God of true God, Light from Light Eternal, Lo, He shuns not the Virgin’s womb; Son of the Father, begotten, not created.”

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4

It is sometimes hard to reconcile Christ not just as fully man but fully God. When we think of a baby being born we immediately think of a child being created by a father and mother. It is important to remember that while Jesus was a man who slept, ate, used the lieu and bled as we do that he was more than just a good man. He was not created as by a man and a woman, but was begotten by God the Father who came to earth, though he has existed since before creation.

The Word of God that called all things to existence, became flesh not only for our sins which were paid for on the cross but as a light that would guide our life. In the study of literature one of the things that is often debated is the author’s intent when they created a work. Most of the times there can only speculation because the author is no longer living or simply because they do not want to tell us. It is not that way with God, our Creator came to earth so that we could walk beside of Him, communicate with Him and be guided by Him so that we may live in the manner in which He created us to live with intentionality. He is our Creator, our Life and our Light and it is up to us to honor him as such. Look to Jesus and to His Word and let Him guide you.

  1. This message is so important to include and emphasize when sharing about the celebration of Christmas. There are a lot of people that don’t know the story of Christ and his birth even though they’ve celebrated Christmas their whole lives. That’s so crazy to me! I’ve got to keep spreading the good news

  2. I thought this devotional was great. The verses John 1:1-4 are so good and the way Alayna wrote about it and explained it in detail was amazing. “He was not created as by a man and a woman, but was begotten by God the Father who came to earth, though he has existed since before creation.” I think we forget that most of the time and just see him as Man alone or as God alone, not FULLY both in one.

  3. I think this is great and very important ! How we view Jesus impacts how we respond to him and have relationship with him. Many religions acknowledge Jesus and don’t deny his existence or even that he was able to perform miracles, yet they miss it completely.Jesus Christ is our God who humbled himself to the point of death on the cross to show how much he loved us and to come into an deep relationship with us through his holy spirit. We see Jesus ask his disciples about who they see him as in Matthew 16:15.I believe as christians in order to walk with God and have a relationship with him we must view him as not just a great child that was born from Mary and Joseph but as the Christ who was sent from God the father to save us .
