Refill Devotional, Week 7 Day 2: “Family”

Family

“He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?” 1 Timothy 3:4-5

1 Timothy lists out requirements for overseers of the church, which provides a model for all Christian homes. First, we must be able to have harmony in our own family before we try to bring harmony into the church or into the world. After all, how can we offer others something we don’t have ourselves? It’s much easier to give to others out of an excess, which is the way God intended it to be.

Do you have an excess of peace, harmony and refreshment happening in your home? If not, focus on your relationship with God and your relationship with family above all else. There may be other seasons of life that you will be able to pursue various ambitions but neglecting marriage or children could leave a lifetime of regret. I’ve heard many people regret not spending more time with family at the end of their lives but I’ve never heard of anyone wishing they spent more time working. Make sure you are putting first things first. God will bless those priorities in your life that are in right alignment with his will.
