Refill Devotional, Week 5 Day 3: “Truth – 21 Over”

Refill with worship: Truth – 21 over

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4: 23-24 (ESV)

Dr. Erwin Lutzer states, “We must worship in truth. Worship is not just an emotional exercise but a response of the heart built on truth about God. ‘The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth’ (Psalm. 145:18). Worship that is not based on God’s Word is but an emotional encounter with oneself.”

We must build our worship on a foundation of biblical truth. Without truth, our worship is vague and ambiguous. John Owen warns that, “We must not allow ourselves to be satisfied with vague ideas about the love of Christ which present nothing of His glory to our minds.”

We are called to worship in a way that magnifies God’s glory as revealed to us in His Word.

Since we are worshippers by design, we are always worshipping something. We use our words, actions, or time. But if we are not firmly rooted in the Truth, we quickly turn to idols and worship false gods.

When we hide God’s Word in our hearts it transforms us. As we learn more about Christ, we become more like Him. Our worship becomes more specific as we grow in knowledge of who He is. We must fill our hearts with the Truth (Luke 6:45).

As a challenge today, read Psalm 103 and use it as a springboard for worship.
