Refill Devotional, Week 3 Day 1: “Wait In The Lord”

Wait in the Lord
Naomi Brinkman

The Amplified Version of Isaiah 40:31 reads, “But those who wait for the Lord, who expect, look for and hope in Him, shall change and renew their strength.”

The thought behind “wait” is to tarry; in other words, spend time with the Lord, pray.  The Scripture says that those who do this will renew their strength, become rejuvenated.  The thought of being renewed carries the thought of something that is growing, that perhaps was shriveling and then starts growing again, or sprouts again. As we walk our Christian walk, there might be times when we become weary, perhaps lose the freshness of our relationship with the Lord.  Spending time with the Lord in prayer and in the Word will bring that rejuvenation that we need.

Play some worship music, take your Bible and read some of the Psalms.  Pray them back to the Lord and see how renewed you feel.  Your relationship with the Lord will start sprouting again and begin to grow.

This verse reads “Those who wait for the Lord.”  This implies that not everyone will do this.  If we want to feel renewed in the Lord we have to desire it.  Psa. 42:1 says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Coming into God’s presence is not a difficult thing to do.  James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” You can come boldly into his presence and He will welcome you.
