Refill Devotional, Week 3 Day 5:”Renewing Of The Mind”

Renewing of the mind
Naomi Brinkman

True prayer takes hold of God’s strength and witnesses His power in action. The true purpose of prayer is to enable us to see the supernatural power of the Almighty working to overcome the problems of life.  Eph. 4:23 says “Be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind, having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude.”

It has been said that the mind is the devil’s workshop.  That’s where he likes to attack us first.  By submitting your mind to God and getting that fresh mental spiritual attitude, you will be renewed by the Holy Spirit. Rom. 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Spending time with God will renew your mind; it will give you a fresh perspective on how God can work in the various aspects of your life.

The thought of renewal is to go back to the original condition. When we first come to Christ we become a new creature. Old things pass away and all things become new.  (2 Cor. 5:17)  Entering into a time of prayer with the Lord can restore that newness.  We can let the cares of life slide off of us and begin to rejoice in what Christ has done for us.

Psa. 103:2 urges us to not “forget all his benefits.”  An old hymn says “Count your blessings, name them one by one. And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”  Try it.  God keeps records in heaven.  We can keep records of the victories that God has given us in our lives and pass them on to the next generation.  As you rejoice over what God has done and is doing, you will experience a renewing in the Holy Spirit.
