Refill Devotional, Week 2 Day 6: “God Keeps His Promises”

God Keeps His Promises

Numbers 23:19; 2 Corinthians 1:12-20; Hebrews 10:21-23

Today’s scriptures may seem random but they share a common truth—God can be trusted to keep his promises. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the scriptures reveal God as God and nothing like man.  Today’s scriptures distinguish God’s character, God’s intent (heart), and the depths that He will plunge to keep His promises towards us.

We define a promise as an agreement formed by words and intent.  In the past, a promise was as valuable as money because it was backed by the person’s word.  The person’s word represented their character.  Today, promises are less valuable because they are often made with no intention to fulfill, no heart.  We are skeptical of the promise and the promise maker.  Man’s promises have failed us time and time again leaving areas of intimacy, finances, and friendships vulnerable.  So, it is easy to understand why we lack the ability to believe God when He makes promises concerning our lives.

TRUTH CHALLENGE:

  1. What broken promises keep you from trusting people (spouse, family, friends, yourself)?

  2. What feelings do you hold toward the promise makers of broken promises?

  3. What impact do the broken promises and feelings toward the promise maker have on your ability to believe God’s promises?
