Carol Devotional: “Away In A Manger, Part 2”

“The cattle are lowing the poor baby wakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes;”

Hebrews 4:15-16

The Little Lord Jesus was sleeping on hay and animals are making all kinds of noises and He is sitting there peacefully and patiently. This picture that the author paints for us illustrates that this little baby was no ordinary child. He was the Messiah. This part of the song reminds me of the verse that in Hebrews 4:15-16, that says we have a High Priest who was tempted and tested like us, he was like us, but did not sin. Jesus had a human nature but he also had a divine nature and because of the human nature he took on and the weaknesses he faced and overcame, we get to partake in His divine nature. So this season, no matter where you are in life, take some time to be thankful for a peaceful and patient God who sent His son to live a sinless life so that you can become the righteousness of God and be able to boldly go to His throne and receive grace to live a purposeful life.

  1. We tend to picture Jesus as this being that would stick out like a sore thumb due to his divine nature and the supposed aura that surrounded Him from birth. However, in all reality, that was not the case. Despite the significance of His purpose for being here He, like us, experienced growth (physical, mental, spiritual), I’m sure He fell down once or twice as a child, endured hardships, and He was tempted as we are today. Thank goodness for His incarnation! Because of His experience on this earth we can confide in Someone that truly understands what we go through in every way. It’s a blessing.

  2. Currently, we’re doing a year reading plan. We are at the time were we are reading about Jesus and all the amazing things He did. The more I read about this and pray, I find myself in absolute awe of the life He led. Sinless life only to die for us and the sins that we commit. I’m thankful for God’s love, because without it, we would have no Son of God to come and redeem His people.
