Carols Devotional: ” Oh Holy Night, Part 3″

Reverence and Awe

Hebrews 12:28 (ESV)

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe.” Hebrews 12:28

I haven’t been married long enough to know whether the conflict between a husband listening and hearing happens to every wife but I faked listening to my mom enough while growing up that I know that there are definite differences between listening and hearing. You listen to music, you hear the voice of the Lord.

“Fall on your knees,
Oh, hear the angels voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O night divine!”

Falling on our knees and hearing the angels voices both require a sacrifice. I don’t think its a stretch to say I’m not the first person to schedule themselves too busy and not give my God time top priority. The above lyrics remind me that Christ’s birth is worthy of my time in such a way that I should stop whatever task I am doing and reflect on how majestic it is. Worshipping and praising is part of what God asks of us but so is simply sitting and listening.

What are some ways you can slow to a halt this Christmas season, set aside the busyness, fall in reverence and worship in the awe of God’s generosity?
