Refill Devotional, Week 6 Day 5: “Give Thanks”

Give thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:17-19

There is something about thanksgiving that makes it both very easy to do, yet very hard to live by. We all have experience that moment of excitement when we buy or receive that new object and we spend the next couple of days exploring and playing with it filled with joy for this new thing in our lives.  As time goes by the excitement goes away and then you just end up moving on to the next object of our desire.

Living a life of thanksgiving is never allowing those things to get old, always being able to recognize the blessings in your life, even if they are not new, and be thankful for them. Most people are very good at the instant thanksgiving, someone gives you something you say “thanks” you move on, but we are not very good at keeping that thankful mentality as time goes on. God calls us to live a life of thanksgiving, constantly giving thanks for everything in our lives, including our trials and tribulations. Be thankful in everything you do, you will be amazed by how the world starts changing around you. Instead of complaining about your job you can be thankful about having a source of income. Instead of not being happy with the house you have, you can be thankful you don’t have to sleep on the street. Instead of getting mad at your wife because she didn’t do this or that, be thankful that you have someone to share your life with that you love. As you start changing your perspective to a perspective of gratitude you will realize how God’s hand is in every aspect of your life, and how much he cares for you.
