Refill Devotional, Week 5 Day 6: “Freedom”

Refill with worship : Freedom

“Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!” Acts 16:25-26 (NLT)

Jesus is in the business of freedom. When we submit to Him in worship it unlocks spiritual freedom in our lives. In Jesus there is no room for bondage or slavery to old sinful passions. We have been made new and freed to serve Him in newness of spirit. (Rom 7:6)

In the darkest of nights, when we feel trapped or chained or imprisoned, exactly at the moment it seems there is no way out, we must worship as Paul and Silas did. Even when we can’t yet see freedom or when liberty seems unlikely, we must prophesy it into our lives through worship. We must call it in with praise.

Worship lifts our eyes off our chains and onto Jesus. It reminds us that we have been made free. (Gal 5:1) Our chains have already fallen off. We are called as worshippers to enforce the freedom that has already been secured for us.

And our worship isn’t just for us. Other prisoners are listening, too.  Their chains are waiting as well. What if their freedom awaits your worship? What if you are the one called to start the freedom song?

Are there any areas of your life in which you feel enslaved to sin? Spend time this week worshipping Jesus and claiming freedom in those areas. Worship loud enough for others to hear.
