Refill Devotional, Week 5 Day 5: “Victory”

Refill with worship: Victory

Read 2 Chronicles 20:22

In 2 Chronicles 20, the king positioned worship at the front of the war. It was worship that enforced the victory God promised to his people. The sound of praise caused the enemy to self-destruct, leaving no fight left over for Judah.

This means that worship itself is an act of war.  It is our weapon of warfare against the enemy, a tool to bring God’s promised kingdom here to earth. When we humble ourselves and declare God’s sovereignty and authority, the enemy must flee (James 4:7).  Every time.

Even Jesus worshipped before the loudest battle in all eternity. Before he departed for his warfare and victory on the cross, Jesus led the disciples in a hymn of praise (Mark 14:26).  He, too, put the worship before the war. Jesus worshipped on the way to victory. Shouldn’t we do the same?

God has won the war. He conquered sin and death forever through the work of Jesus on the cross.  And if we are the army of God sharing in the inheritance of Christ’s victory, we must worship as victors. We must go to war against the enemy with tools of praise.

In the face of darkness, sadness or oppression, we must worship. When life seem insurmountable, when the day seems too long and the night seems too dark, that is when we must take up arms and worship. Victory awaits and worship calls it in.

In your battle of today, worship as a warrior. “…Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory.” (2 Chronicles 20:17) What battle are you fighting that needs to be won with worship?
